Alana Canna

Teacher

Alana began her dance training at the age of 3 at the Leading Edge Academy of Dance. She began competing as a soloist at the age of 5, and has since been the recipient of numerous aggregate awards at both Kwinana and Mandurah Festival of Dance; her highlights including highest overall tap, contemporary, lyrical, neo-classical and jazz marks for several consecutive years.

Throughout her childhood, Alana received persistent high distinctions across her R.A.D ballet exams and was invited to participate in the annual ‘R.A.D Summer School’ held at the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts (W.A.A.P.A). During her school years Alana diligently practiced the arts, from learning the piano, to performing in several school musicals, including ‘Annie’ and ‘Seussical the Musical’. However, it was with her appointment to Dance Captain in 2015 when she first realised her passion for creating and choreographing.

In 2015 Alana sustained an injury that prevented her from dancing for quite some time. However, after several years of rehabilitation, Alana has been able to enjoy a full recovery and is grateful to be able to dance again. Since then, she has completed the part-time, ‘Propel’ course at W.A.A.P.A (ex-certificate II course), and a secondment program at the ‘Australian Dance Theatre’ (ADT) in Adelaide. During this time at ADT, she was able to train and network with professional company dancers and was able to learn and perform contemporary dance repertoire in front of the company directors.

Alana has since been offered contracts overseas, however she declined in order to complete her Bachelor of Biomedical Science at U.W.A. With this brings the opportunity for Alana to continue to teach in Perth, and she is very excited to share her passion and commitment to dance with the All About Dance community.
